About me

My name is Ye Aung. I am a Burmese student who is studying at Unitec. My aim is to be a mechanic in the future. Because of my lack of English knowledge, I still need to study language before studying mechanis. In fact, like other Burmese youngster I am trying to change my life-style and driving myself to a better life than my parents who could not establish themselves really well in a difficult situation.

My parents used to be bank officers which was the best job at the time when I was young. But after the military government was overthrown, our family faced many difficulties as did other Burmese people. Even to support our education they were faced with many difficulties. Due to this I started to see my family as fragile. Later there were many reasons that made me decide to go abroad and find a proper job which would support my family and for my future. I gave up my goal of being a car mechanic although I had finished my diploma in engineering and came to New Zealand as a fisherman working on a fishing trawler.
Later there were many reasons which made me stay in New Zealand rather than being a seaman or going back home after the two years specified by my previous contract.

Now I am studying English language at Unitec and working in a petrol station at the same time. One thing I believe in my life is the more I can improve myself the more I can contribute to my country. For whatever reasons I stay abroad, I need to improve myself for my sake as well as my country.
